Natural denatured ethanol product is produced by mixing two types of alcohol and powdered bitrex to make a solution. Pure ethanol of 99.9% concentration and Tertiary Butyl Alcohol of 0.01% concentration is mixed with 10ppm bitrex. Purity of ethanol is measured by concentration of the substance of ethanol in liquid solution. Volume of ethanol over volume of the final solution (v/v) is the most accurate measurement of purity.

At a concentration of 99.9% there are 999 ethanol particles for every one water molecule, in a 1000 particle solution. This 99.9% pure denatured ethanol has bitrex added to it. Bitrex contains the most bitter tasting compound known as denatonium benzoate. It is added to denatured alcohol to prevent oral consumption. Denatured alcohol is toxic when ingested, so it is not intended for manufacturing beverages.
