Natural denatured ethanol product is produced by mixing two types of alcohol and distilled water. Pure ethanol of 96.2% concentration, isopropyl alcohol of 3.0% concentration, and pure distilled water is mixed at a ratio of 73:24:3. Purity of ethanol is measured by concentration of the substance of ethanol in liquid solution. Volume of ethanol over volume of the final solution (v/v) is the most accurate measurement of purity.

At a concentration of 70.0% there are 700 ethanol particles for every 300 other particles, in a 1000 particle solution. This 70.0% pure ethanol is denatured by the addition of isopropyl alcohol, making it safe to use on skin. It is used to in the production of methylated spirits and antiseptics. It is not intended for the manufacture of beverages.
